My son Gus died at birth and so so many people did very kind things for us but the one that really stands out are the friends that text me every month on the date- when he would be one month, etc.
My friends made sure that I felt loved and celebrated on my birthday by dropping off a hot tea, scone, and lovely plant - all BEFORE school drop off! For them to prioritize me like that was incredible and made me feel so loved.
My sister stayed with me for the weekend to visit/run a 10-mile race and when she left she unloaded the dishwasher for me! I didn’t know until I got home from work and it was the nicest surprise! It’s the little things ❤️
I had to go away for a work trip and my husband was on-call that week so could not do drop off or pick up. We do not have family nearby that can help. My friend who was on a break in between jobs offered to come over every morning and wake my kids, get them ready, and take them to school, then at end of the day pick them up, bath them, make them dinner, put them to bed for 2.5 days straight. Also, be ‘on-call’ overnight in case my husband had to leave during the night. She was basically a temporary nanny. I was eternally grateful so I took her out to 1 of the fanciest restaurants in town for dinner - bottle of wine and 4 courses as a thank you gift to her.
It's Maycember for everyone, but especially the moms of school age kiddos. Picture being a mom of a HS senior who still has not selected his college path of choice, graduation in 5 weeks and all of the events that lead up to it, your oldest is completing his 2nd year of college as a dance major with MANY performances. Add on that said mom is also Assistant Principal of the HS where your senior is graduating! AP test proctering starts next week, exams 3 weeks later, coordinating graduation for 500 kids and all of the other end of school year crazies. Now, sprinkle on a husband who was just diagnosed with prostate cancer and starts his treatments this Friday. Oh and by the way, they only have 1 car.
As the mom of her senior's BFF (my son is also a senior) I'm setting up PTA lunches for her since she's the last person that gets cared for in her home. Also setting up dinner drop-offs starting Friday so that she doesn't worry about having to cook on top of the world that is resting on her shoulders <3 . I would LOVE to win the mug so that I can fill it with chocolate, gum, and other goodies while she limps over the finish line of this crazy season of life.
Love that Book Person mug! I have a book-related nice thing to share :) A friend of mine has a long commute on public transportation to & from work. Our kids go to school together, and sometimes she asks me to grab her kids if her train is running late and just hang at the school playground until she arrives. Yesterday there was a fire on the train track and her train was majorly delayed. Once we realized she was way too far away from me to just drive over and pick her up, I brought her kiddos (twins) to the library with me and my son, checked out some fun books for everyone, then brought them back to my house for reading and snacks. When she got to my house, we had a drink and some laughs while the kids continued reading and playing for another hour. Cheers to the power of supportive friendship, and books! :)
My son just had his tonsils & adenoids removed and we had several friends just drop by with popsicles, milkshakes and things to keep him busy. It was so thoughtful.
My child's name is the same as the Camino's and I'm, now thinking that might be a fun trip when he is older... Looking forward to hearing about your trip, Caro
I know you aren’t *actually* a real life friend, but you hosting the CPR class seems like the nicest thing I can imagine. I have such mom guilt that I haven’t taken a recent class, but have been overwhelmed and shut down every time I have tried looking for one. Thank you for making it easy, as you always do!!
A friend came over and she made sweet potato, black bean, feta burritos while we talked. Then she froze all the leftovers for me to have a quick lunch later. It was truly amazing.
My friend’s house was struck by lightning a couple months ago and tragically burned down. It was a total loss. Anyone would understand if she focused solely on herself and her family while navigating this, but that’s not Sara. She jumped in to helping me plan and coordinate an event we have coming up at our sons’ elementary school. The big event is on Saturday and I couldn’t have done any of this without her!
I work remotely and sometimes feel like I’m on an island. A fellow remote worker in Texas sent surprise door dash Prosecco after a VERY long work week. It was such a small gesture that MADE MY WEEK! Definitely going to pass along that gift.
When our son needed to have ear tube surgery, my friend Leigh Ann sent us a surpise box of cookies that were delivered the afternoon of the surgery. It was a really rough, long morning leading up to and after the procedure, and the cookies were such a wonderful, thoughtful surprise that we all enjoyed.
Every Friday my friend Katie has the day off and she brings me coffee from our favorite coffee shop and then comes to hang out with me and my three kids for a bit. She has no kids of her own so it’s such a special gift for her to choose to come be with me!

A friend bought me a surprise thank you Chai latte because I helped her through a rough patch.🙂
