I’d LOVE a section for freezer friendly meals! I often do this for loved ones before new babies, sickness, etc so they can heat up and have available whenever. I’m looking for some good ones right now to make and bring for my grandma in a few weeks.
yes, on the browser there's a magnifying glass you can click to search! there's also the index on the main page. unfortunately there's no search function on the app :(
From the main page, the search function doesn’t seem to give any recipe results. But I might be missing something! 🙂 is there a way to search for recipes?
Also- when I go to browse the index, it moves me to a browser and out of the app. And thus logs me out. I love your content but am not a Substack UI fan 😕
This TOC is just amazing! To be able to easily access your delicious recipes makes me want yo try them all now. However I do not see a search bar anywhere. I’m currently searching for your Elote Mexican recipe.
Love love LOVE the index. Would you ever consider tagging by season? It would be great to browse fall recipes before I head out to the farmer's market, for example. Thank you!
I would LOVE a section for make ahead meals! Things I can prep completely during the day and then just finish off 15 min before dinner. Definitely some overlap with freezer friendly meals here but I still think it merits its own category! 😊
Could I request a category for "What to cook when you're at a swim meet/baseball game"? Easy prep, easy to serve and good at room temp? 😂 Love, a mom on the go tired of chick fil a.
My wife Lisa convinced me to post this here. I write reviews for Yelp, Nextdoor, and Google and wrote the following. Bob
For those of you who have bothered to read my missives on Yelp, Nextdoor or Google, you know that I tend to write something different than most reviewers.
Today is no different. I am a novice cook. I am one of the lucky few who is married to a spectacular woman, who is immensely smart and successful, and fabulously good looking and often times drives me to distraction.
After she had a long day back in November she told me (read ordered) that she would like me to take care of making dinner. To her shock and surprise (and mine I have to admit) I said sure.
Our daughter and son-in-law live nearby so I told them I would cook for them and their two kids (ages 3 1/2 and 2) also. I figured cooking for six can't be much harder than cooking for two.
Our daughter gave us a hard copy and a Substack subscription to "What to Cook When You Don't Feel Like Cooking" by Carolin Chambers, who is originally from Winston Salem, which is where we live. I have enjoyed it immensely. The recipes are easy to follow, the ingredients are easy to find and IMHO the meals have been great. I have now made 40 different dinners.
Caro, that's what Caroline Chambers goes by (we’re not friends yet) has made this easy and fun. The step by step instructions are great. She even gives you ideas for substitutions if someone doesn't like an ingredient. I have tried other recipes and they have not been as idiot proof as Caro's. If you need to get someone or yourself a gift , get this book and the online subscription.
Now for a story; my son-in-law is from a small town in NC. He considers, Chick-fil-a with Chick-fil-sauce is adventurous eating. I followed a recipe that used kimchi (boy does it stink prior to cooking) and he loves it.
I cook three meals a week. Dinner Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. We eat leftovers on Wednesday and go out for pizza on Friday and Saturday. Sunday if we are all in town we have dinner together like the Reagan's from the TV show "Blue Bloods".
Now for another story. When I was stationed in Germany, another bachelor and I decided to use up some of our accumulated leave and drive to Paris and attend a cooking class for people aspiring to be chefs. There were 30 people in the class, 28 women and us. We had an amazing time. The instructors thought we were nuts but loved our enthusiasm.
Also, I can’t begin to tell you how nice it is to have him taking on the cooking. I’m still working, and he is mostly retired. He has fun doing it, and the rest of us benefit from his talents. Thanks!!!
No - I’m Lisa, and my husband Bob posted this in my account. He also posted on Next Door, where it has over 2200 likes. He (and I) are huge fans. We live in Buena Vista.

mmmmm yea i'm a college student + work and having stuff i can make and reheat would be great !!!
The index is not working for me. Am I doing something wrong? When I click on a category it just goes back to the index.
The same thing is happening to me!
Weird... I'm using it right now and it's working for me. Are you using the app or web?
It doesn’t work for me on the app.
Same
I’ve been trying it on the app. Will try again on the web!
The same thing happened to me on the app too. But you can just scroll down instead of clicking on the links if you don't want to use a browser.
Same with me, I want breakfast recipes but clicking on that (which seems to be a link) does nothing but click back to same place
Is there a way to search by a single ingredient (ie napa cabbage)
Yes! The app doesn't have search, but the browser does. Just go to the homepage of whattocook.substack.com and click the magnifying glass!
Is there was way to search recipes- example- Greek salad?
also you're on luck re: the greek salad -- this sunday!!

hi mama. when you're on the main page - whattocook.substack.com - there's a microscope icon. you can search for any recipe name or ingredient.
but i actually don't have a WTC elote recipe!
The list is wonderfully too much for me to take in!
It is definitely very thorough!!! It's sorted by protein and mood 🥰
Do you have a "make it ahead" for dinner parties category? Know a lot of your recipes are make ahead-able but would love to see them all in one place!
The index isn't working for me. When I click the 15-minute category, it just takes me back to the top of the page. Anyone else?
Hi Grace! I'm looking into this, but if you scroll to the very bottom (annoying I know!) it's there! xo
How to search index
I just love that a pitcher of Margs is categorized as a 15 minute meal...because honestly, yes.
i've been waiting for someone to catch that for a month
Love love LOVE the index. Would you ever consider tagging by season? It would be great to browse fall recipes before I head out to the farmer's market, for example. Thank you!
We are actually working on a seasonal index now!!!
Of course you are! Thanks for the prompt response!
Do you happen to have an overnight oats recipe? Something good for my active teenager to fuel her all day?
I know this comment is super old but was scrolling for fun- I’ve been using this one recently and it works great: https://feelgoodfoodie.net/recipe/overnight-oats/
