Two weeks ago I was solo parenting for the weekend with a 5 week old, 4 year old, and 6 year old and my friend Taylor dropped off a huge container of mac and cheese at 5 pm unprompted in case we needed dinner. Which we did!! 30 minutes later my neighbor friend Megan texted that she was at the store and asked what I needed. She brought some grocery essentials and eggs from her chicken coop over within 20 minutes!! The amount of kindness in that one hour made me cry. Thoughtful friends rock!!
When I unexpectedly lost my job in a k-12 public education system due to budget cuts 3 weeks ago, my boss/work wife stepped in to truly care for me. She got straight to work helping me make a LinkedIn (because those are a thing?!)- headshot and all! Through the challenges, she is centering my humanity and helping me find something next that I absolutely love.
Two of my besties are just SMASHING it as Indie authors. One of them just finished signing at her second con of the summer and got asked to both sit on and moderate a panel! I’m so excited for them and inspired by them!
Eliza has two series: one is paranormal (the first one is a middle aged divorced dad in therapy who meets a witch on the run, the second is 900 years of pining between a vampire and a selkie — I am not normally a paranormal girlie, but these are AMAZING) and the second is medieval Scottish highland (think a love letter to the bodice rippers of the 90s without the dubious consent): https://www.amazon.com/stores/author/B0BY35G8SR/allbooks
Last weekend my bff took time away from her family to go with me to my parents house 3 hours away to clean out my mom’s closet with me. My mom passed away and this is just one of countless ways my friend has shown up for me. I always tell everyone they should be so lucky as to have a friend like her. On top of what a great friend she is, she was recently promoted at work and I just couldn’t be more proud of her!!
My bestie Jayde is 12 weeks pregnant with twins after 3+ years of infertility treatments!!! We’ve been friends since 9th grade (16 years!) and I am just so happy for her and her husband.
My friend Molly is rocking it. She lost her mom to cancer a year ago. Less than two months later she gave birth to preemi twins, who had to spend over a month in NICU. At the same time she took over her family business and still parented her 20 month old. She’s gone through more crap in the last year than most people do in a lifetime, and has continued to be a great friend to me and others during it all. I’m proud of her for all she’s doing for her family, friends and small business. Anyone in KC, she makes the best hummus around!! Mo’s Worlds Greatest - you can find it at Whole Foods, Price Chopper, Hen House, etc! She’s also a WTC member so if you see this, Molly, I’m proud of you! But as a mom to 3 under 3, I’m guessing you aren’t reading comments unless it’s one of those MOTN feeds with the twins or you somehow got to go to the bathroom alone. 😉
Mr. Bing makes a mild chili crisp that has zero spice. We give it to our 3-yr-old while we eat the hot stuff so he can be included. Also it’s delish and garlicky so I use it too sometimes!
My best friend finished NP school through a tough pregnancy, and passed her boards and secured an awesome job a few days before giving birth. We were both pregnant with our first babies. She somehow still managed to show up for me. She visited multiple times a week, supported me through the decision to get medicated for PPD (the hormones are WILD), brought us dinner, checked on me every day. I’m trying to pass it forward now to her with her newborn. I’ll never forget how loved I feel by her as we support each other through early motherhood. Or how proud I feel of her advancing her career and getting to watch her do it again (we were college roommates through her becoming a nurse!).
One of my best friends is my sister. She has worked all through her pregnancies, babies as a full time attorney. She is super creative, keeps an incredible house and is absolutely amazing. I know it has not been easy but she is a fabulous mom to four, a wonderful wife and the best friend. Our mom has dementia which is incredibly heart breaking. Sometimes life is a lot, but I’m so thankful for my sister, Elizabeth!
Congrats everyone! Caro, frozen salmon is a lot more accessible for me- do you let it thaw in fridge first or cook from frozen (for longer of course), or some other secret method that makes it as delicious as fresh salmon?

Darn, sorry about this. Toss them in sesame oil!! The chili oil was too one-flavor.
My bestie sold her book to a top publishing company! She’s going through a lot of changes in life and I am SO PROUD OF HER!!!

Is there a chicken version of this? I’m not a fish lover but could do a different meat!
