The Trevor Project helps the LGBTQ community by providing all kinds of services including a 24 hour hotline. They save lives and I’m grateful for the work do.
Hi Caro! My pitch is for Moms Demand Action, a nonprofit working to keep kids safe from gun violence, created by a mom and powered by moms - AND all contributions are being matched until DECEMBER 13th! <3
A nonprofit I recently learned about and will start including in my planned giving is Undue Medical Debt. They essentially buy up medical debt and then forgive it. It's a really cool model and even small donations have a big impact!
Ronald McDonald house! Providing a home away from home for children and families who are hospitalized or receiving medical treatment- to treat the child you need to take care of the whole family
My current favorite organization is the Ira B Jones Elementary FTO. My kids go to school at ira b Jones in Asheville NC and the FTO has done so much for the community post Helene- setting up a resource closet for community members in need, buying school supplies for all the teachers, providing drinkable water for students so classes could resume after a month of no school, and more.
Hi! My favorite organization is the DC Diaper Bank who have distributed 50 million diapers since 2010 and now also collect and distribute formula - can you believe they keep it locked in cages in grocery stores?! it should be free! - as well as baby gear and period products to families in need.
My grandmother’s Molasses Crinkles are my favorite and bring back so many warm memories of Christmases spent at her house with extended family. My own mom continued the tradition and, once married, I carried it on as well. Now my grown kids have picked up torch and make them for their own families. I love that we honor my Grandma each year with this delicious cookie and keep her memory alive with every bite.
My favorite charity is Connections for the Homeless. They provide invaluable resources and services for those with housing insecurity here in suburban Cook county outside of Chicago.
Chamber of Mothers! We have so far to go to achieve better maternal health outcomes, paid family leave and more affordable childcare options. They are badass women making it happen!
My favorite non-profit is the Alameda Free Library. My mom, who passed away this summer, was a librarian there for 30 years and I saw her passion first-hand for spreading the joy of reading. Now, my two young sons and I have a standing Tuesday night date to their family story time program. I feel connected to my mom, books, and my sons every single week.
My favorite not-for-profit hits close to home- literally. I would donate it to my daughters’ teeny neighborhood school, Wilmot Learning Place. It has been transformative for my oldest- a quiet and observant girl who was born (and isolated) during the Covid lockdown. Her teachers are the loveliest people you would ever meet and devote themselves to their craft. They lead with love, and not much coin. Childcare in our area is an epidemic, and these teachers put their time, heart and own treasure to work daily.
My favorite non-profit is Lilypad’s Housing!! Before my youngest was born, we had to relocate close to a children’s hospital and then once he was born, he had a 3 month long stay in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. LilyPad’s housing went above and beyond in giving us a safe clean apartment to stay in with little cost to us while pregnant and inpatient. It took an enormous stress off our family.
The Center Food Bank of Palm Springs! I volunteer with them every other Thursday distributing food to 250+ families every week. Over 15% of the population in the Coachella Valley (where Palm Springs is located) is food insecure, and I know our families- and their pets- rely on the groceries they get from our food bank. Thanks for thinking of all these great organizations!
National Birth Equity Collaborative! They help level the playing field in the realm of giving birth, which is significantly more dangerous for Black birthing people.
I’d have to say right now it is my church’s Helene relief fund. Valley Hope Church is in the middle of a very hard hit area in Swannanoa, North Carolina. Through the donations to our relief fund we have been able to help rebuild homes, businesses and lives through our restoration efforts. I would never wish this on anyone, but we also have seen so much good in it. Thanks for such a cool giveaway.
