Okay I know we were supposed to post fish places, but really I just want to say - BOOM! I can cook fish! We were feeling so cocky about this we made it twice this week (gotta meet the recommendations!)....and it was just as good the second time! Thank you <3
Fisherman’s Dock in NE Florida (they have a few) has never done me wrong. I made this with grouper and opted for the tacos. I had a a small amount of leftovers, threw it all together in a bowl for lunch and YUM. Kind of like a ceviche salad!
Check out Mark Marhefka at Abundant Seafood if you’re in the Charleston, SC area. And while you’re at Shem Creek getting your fresh catch, grab some shrimp from Geechie Seafood at the dock next door.
Former fish dude in Portland, Oregon. Thanks for sharing your perspective on buying and cooking fish. Was always happy to engage with any customer curious about their food and how to cook it. Always had a fish taco mix available (usually cod, sometimes halibut depending on the season) for quick dinners like this. But would always tell people how coconut milk, kaffir lime leaves, fish sauce and rice noodles would transform it into a bowl of love.
I know that I’m about 3 years too late but want to add Earp’s Seafood, Saltwater Seafood Market, Capital Seafood Market and Locals Seafood Market in Raleigh are all terrific - brought in from the coast daily.
Word to the wise!!!! My Cajun seasoning’s #1 ingredient was salt and so I accidentally double salted the fish. My partner was a good sport but we both had to throw out the cod 😩 so check the container!!
Cudaco in Charleston, SC!

YUM - need to do a ceviche for What To Cook!!!
Does the rice fall through the holes of the colander? Or am I using the wrong kind of colander....
I always lose a few grains if they go longwise down but otherwise, not many losses!!!
My oven has an option for broiler temp. What is ideal here?
High!
Like 550? That’s the default
Yes! Great! We are aiming to get a nice sear using the broiler versus a skillet to keep things easy and stink-free, so we need that high heat!
Came out so yummy Thank you for this awesome recipe!!
Need a great monger in LA/West Hollywood area ❤️
+ Carroll Gardens Fish Market and Fish Tales, both on Court Street in Brooklyn, NY!
Blue Horizon Seafood in West U in Houston has my vote!

And I love the Sea Harvest folks in the Crossroads in Carmel! Best place to get sand dabs.
YES - this is where we buy ours!!! I’m hoping a Monterey person will leave a rec for one of the places on the docks!
Love this shop. I need to try dining there, I’ve only ever bought fish to take home and cook.
Buoy & Trap if you’re in Truckee,CA or the Tahoe area!
