Hi! I lost my dad in June of 2024 unexpectedly and I was never a big romance fan, but reading romance in this time of grief has been really the only way I can make my way through books. Love hearing the 831 news and still have Big Fan on my TBR list. Currently racing through Part of Your World!

sending you so much love and Abby Jiminez juicy swoons

Romance books have absolutely kept me reading when my brain is otherwise too tired for much else. I LOVE Abby Jimenez!

I’m sorry for your loss JR- I hope Abby Jimenez’ books bring you lots of joy and comfort (I love them!)

Sorry for your loss. I lost my dad unexpectedly in Sept 2023 and can relate. It's nice to read something with a happy ending when life isn't feeling that way.

OK, I'm asking here because you are all so knowledgeable: after using one chili, can I freeze the rest in the adobo sauce?

Expand full comment

Yes!!! The best thing to do is get a Ziploc or piece of plastic wrap and place each pepper individually so that it's not touching the other peppers lay the Ziploc flat and freeze it and then you can use each one individually

a million thank yous! (Now to go atone for all the adobo I've tossed out over the years...)

The frozen garlic cubes hack has saved me on many occasions! And also - just went in person to my library to request they buy Big Fan since they didn’t already have a copy! Excited to read it!

Same here on the garlic cubes. I also buy ginger cubes. Anything to save time for me is huge. I love to cook, but after working a demanding job all day (that's after my 2-3 hours in the AM working on my wellness writing), making a big dinner isn't what I want to do.

831 club seems so cool!! I am going to try the leave the phone in one place situation to see if that helps the constant like knee-jerk reaction to check it every damn minute!

Expand full comment

It feels so freeing to leave my phone in my bedroom and go about my day at home without it glued to my side. It truly is a knee-jerk reaction to check it all the time! But if you can walk away from it, the addiction to check it all the time may fade (it works for me).

BTB is the best! Also, What were your favorite audiobooks of 2024? Can you start a “what to read (or listen to) when you don’t feel like thinking too much” section of the newsletter?

This membership is such a cool idea! Regarding quality over quantity, I started overhauling my wardrobe with this in mind two years ago. I’m still not 100% there, but getting dressed is now such a better experience than it was!!

Better than Bouillon has been a game changer for me!

Expand full comment

Same! Well, my grocery store has an organic bone broth bouillon that I use instead, but same idea. I also have lots of miso on hand. I get the Bon App Cooks box and they keep sending me miso!

Love the smoothie bomb idea! Can't wait to try.

Kenko also has a similar thing in packets. That is what I use currently. Organic simple ingredients.

My life was changed when I realized I could freeze leftover canned goods! Now extra chilis in adobo, tomato paste, and anchovies all go straight in the freezer instead of rotting in the fridge lol

Oh man I once used an entire can of chipotle in adobo…never again

Expand full comment

I am definitely going to start saying in parentheses every time I call for a chipotle in adobo (just ONE PEPPER! Not the whole can!!!)

lol I’ve done this too! My husband and I were so sad we ended up throwing away the whole meal. We were dying.

One of my themes for the year is create>consume so here I am planning out my veg garden and wishing I was scrolling instead lol I'll break the habit!

I love that! I’m trying to shop more secondhand and get creative with what I already have

I love reading books and listening to audiobooks books via Hoopla - right now listening to The Women. Its so sad but something about the hardships these women are going through makes me more grateful for the small joys in my life. So thankful for the sacrifices of so many women and men.
